Spring in Blue Hills, a rustic town in Massachusetts, was often joyous and festive. The once barren peaks of the surrounding mountains now become green, now full of color. The single lane-gravel road leading to the I-95 now is visible, without snow blocking the small path. In towns like Blue Hills, there were few reminders of life existing out of the few neighbors people had; this caused new to travel quickly. The news of beloved Lexi Brown’s murder travels faster than normal.

“I heard she was attacked by her own dog!” Jesse Morgan says to her friends.

“No, she was killed by a tree falling on her!” Liz Beth refutes.

The unrest was expected by the Blue Hills Police Department; the BHPD would often hide details of murder cases, as news travels fast, so would the murderer out of town. Giving the impression that the BHPD was idle let the news remain rumors. Such rules were reputed to be followed by the powerful and intelligent BHPD every day.

Arriving at the scene, Charles Brown was in horror to see his wife in such a state. With every bit of his soul he wishes he never would have gone to Hill’s Brewery with his friends. If I came home just a minute earlier, he thought to himself in regret. His eyes tear up.

“Ay Chaz, how you holdn' up? You sure you want to work this case?” Rick Arron, Chief of police, Charles’ best friend asks.

“As well as a widower” He speaks, in a sad tone. The crime scene was truly gruesome, two .9mm shots had been fired, both from point blank. The body had then been cut and scared by an ax, an obvious crime of passion. The prime suspect at the time was Jake Nathan, a stressed out and underpaid employee of Lexi.

“Yep, was definitely Jake,” Charles states in a confident tone “Lexi, she never had anyone hate her. She was a calm soul, only a disturbed psycho such as Jake could do something like this.” After collecting evidence, Charles and his crew head back to the office to investigate.

Lexi was one of the girls who never left town, Charles was the same. Though his father never thought he could become one, he became the best investigator in Blue Hills and the surrounding towns. After going to college in Boston he returned back to Blue Hills and became an investigator at BHPD. Around the same time, Lexi and him met each other. They married and had two kids: Alexa and Bella (both girls) and settled down. Charles never thought things would end like this.

The following day Daniel Rowe, a forensic analyst, (Another one of Charles' many friends.) came rushing to talk to Charles.

“Ay Chaz guess what, the ax marks on the body there from a special ax. A blue and white one, only 10 sold in the world, one in state. These axs have a special blade that leaves their company crest on whatever was cut.”

Charles was in shock, never in a million years did he think evendice like this would come up so quickly. It often took weeks to even come up with a little evidence in cases, especially murder cases.

“Can you trace the buyer?” Charles asks.

“Nah, they bought it from some off market illegal website after it was stolen from a warehouse. Whoever did this, thought it through.” Daniel's disappointment shows as he responds.

“Well I'm off to see Jake, with any luck I’ll trace the ax to him.”

Charles’ heart beats fast as he walks out of the building. He feels hundreds of emotions all at once. Is this all we need to find the man who killed Lexi?

Charles returns to the BHPD office with Jake Nathan in handcuffs. Shoving him into a jail cell, Charles’ scars and cuts became visible, disorienting everybody nearby. He was bleeding violently from his lip and cheek. Both his eyes nearly closing up from swelling up.

“Mother of God, what happened?” Rick asks Charles, jumping up from his desk.

“I knocked on Jake’s door, came in and asked questions. Jake….well he got frenetic, began to breathe fast. Then lunged at me and began to beat me up. I pushed him off and he ran for his weapons closet. He opened the door, but I knocked him down before he could get anything. In the closest was hundreds of weapons: shotguns, automatic guns, machetes. Not just that, there was also the ax Daniel was talkn’ ‘bout and a .9mm with two bullets missing. They’re in my trunk.”

“God, bro come with me, I’ll get you cleaned up” Rick responds in disbelief. Rick began cleaning Charles' wounds on his face. Then lift up his vest then shirt to clean any other wounds.

“Hey Chaz, did Jake have a knife of any sort with him?” Rick asks, mystified.

“Nah, why?” Charles breathlessly utters.

“How do you have cut marks under your vest?” Rick asks accusatory

“I don't know-”

“-they look fresh, not any older than a day.”

“I probably just fell and cut it” Charles respondes innocently. A sudden silence fell upon the BHPD medic room. After stitching up, Charles left and went on with his day. He processes the arrest of Jake Nathan. The DNA of Lexi and Rick was on both the gun and the ax in his home. All that was left was the trial.

As Blue Hills was so far away from the nearest courthouse, it would take a while till Jake’s court date. In that time Charles was able to drive to New York to pick-up his kids; Charles told his brother Henry not to tell the kids about Lexi’s death. It would be better to hear it from me, their father, after all they’re only kids, believes Charles. Charles loves his kids with all his heart, he would do anything for them, no matter what.

“Daddy, Daddy I missed you soooooooo much” His older daughter Alexa speaks loudly. Alexa was the most loving and happy five year old Charles could wish for.

“Yeah I was soooo sad without you” His younger daughter Bella chimes in. Just as Alexa, she was the happiest three year old Chrlaes could wish for. His love for them reaches no limits, none at all.

Both Alexa and Bella resemble their mother in every way possible. Their dark brown hair reaching just below their shoulders, their small dark brown eyes always filled with a sparkle, and most of all a smile that could light the world. The drive home was hard for Charles, the idea of having to tell his kids that their mother was gone was unbearable, but he knew he had to. After reaching home, he sat down and told his beloved daughters the horrific news. Their sparkle, their light, all the good and happiness in their eyes went out. Tears filled up their eyes as they sobbed their sorrows out, it broke Charles, making him feel an indescribable feeling.

After a while the court date came up, Charles was in the mens bathroom preparing for his statement. As Charles talks to the mirror Rick walks in.

“He’ll pay for the blood he shed.” Rick said to Charles in an affirmative tone as he went to wash his hands next to Charles.

“Yeah, he better.” chimed in Charles.

“Let me just ask you one question, you and Lexi, you two were having problems, right Charles?”

“Umm…. yeah, I guess, so how do-”

“Yeah, she threatened to divorce, and with your substance abuse history she would have custody of the kids, the ones you would do anything for.”

“Uhh-”

“-Here's what I think happened, Charles. You get mad at Lexi, furious, in a rage you start yelling at her, she threatened to tell the BHPD about your substance abuse, that is what makes you crack. You're already drunk from going to the bar, not thinking you get your gun out and shoot her, then still in a fit of rage maul her with your ax, which you then planted in Jake’s house and also staged the fight.” Rick spoke frantically. Charles' lip began to quiver, his eyes tear up, his throat became tight.

“Did I stutter, answer me!” Rick sternly screamed as Chalrles’ conciliatory face had no effect on Rick. Suddenly, Charles' lip stopped moving, his eyes dried, and his throat loosened. In a sinister manner he began to gaggle, coaxing Rick into thinking for a moment he was crying. In one swift movement, Charles took out his gun, shot Rick three times in the heart and put the gun back into his back pocket. As thick-heavy blood emanated from Rick's chest, Charles began to walk around the tile floor.

“You know, I deplored killing Lexi for a second, then it came upon me.” Charles spoke to the dying Rick, ”She defied me and the iron fist authority I had in this house by file for divorce. When I shot her, I was jovial, the once iron cuff that was limiting me, broke.  It set me free, into a haven of euphoria.” Charles spoke cunningly in a tone of irate. Charles took a last look of Rick’s face as he exits, all he sees is a face full of displeasure and indignation.

He walks out of the room and jumps into his '60 mustang convertible with his two kids in the back. He puts the key into the ignition and turns it,  the car roars alive with life. He backs up onto the now clear gravel roads and drove to the I-95, escaping the town of his murder.
